A New Collection of Wood Fired Ceramics by Skye Corewijn
This November I'm excited to share my summer's wood fired pottery with you. I fired in both Devon and Oileán Chléire, West Cork this year and the results were beautifully varied.

In July I made my annual pilgrimmage to The Barn Pottery in Devon, where a crew of eight fired Nic Collins' groundhog kiln (perhaps for the very last time). It was hot, the fire was fierce and the results were everything you might expect from healthy doses of side stoking throughout. With no pyrometer we relied solely on cones and the kiln fired for 83 hours.

In August Lily Pearmain and I went on a small odyssey by plane, bus and boat to Oileán Chléire, West Cork. We went to visit our friend, Simon Kidd, who works and teaches there. He actually exhibited at klei last year, with an incredible collection of work all made and fired there. A weekend by the sea, we fired in a day, spraying in plenty of soda towards the end.

I hope you enjoy the pots as much as I enjoyed firing them; it's an experience that breathes so much memory and uniqueness to each piece. The path of fire, soda and ash leaving marks that relay so directly their journey during the firing. I love these pieces; they hold such freedom that comes with no expectation and that's not easy to come by when you're making pots for a living. The privilege to fire like this is not lost on me, and I continue to treasure these opportunities.

A huge thanks to Nic Collins and the crew from Devon; and to Simon for having us on the magical Oileán Chléire.
Pieces will be available from the first week of November and go online soon after.
