Fired in Simon's small, self built experimental soda kiln, these vases have been fired with gas and wood up to cone 8, at this point soda is introduced into the kiln through either soda bombs being dropped into the kiln or a saturated soda solution sprayed through the kiln. Simon also introduces a mixture of ashes into the kiln which are collected from fireplaces on Cape Clear Island, Ireland. These materials fly through the kiln and land on the pots, melting onto their surfaces and creating one of a kind surfaces
